Fireflies

I love fireflies. Once when I was out feeding my rabbits as a girl, I noticed a few lightning bugs beginning to make their evening debut. I was so excited!
“Why don’t you come with me out to the field,” I heard Jesus whisper in my ear.
“Ok, but it’s kinda far, you sure about this?”, I asked, already knowing I would go.
“Just come.”
Enraptured by the thought of an adventure with the One I loved most, I quickly ran through the back yard, down past the Old Barn, crossed the gravel road, and emerged into the meadow; I paused. All around, for miles and miles in what seemed like every direction hung a billion little lights, hovering just above the summer brome. The grass smelled sweet, and it was as if the stars had descended from the heavens to dance among it. I smiled and began to sing. After a few moments of chorus among the “Silent Symphony of Sparkles” (the name I had given the glowing ensemble of little flying creatures about me), I finally asked the Lord, “Why did you want me to come here? I love it! But why did you desire so badly to share it with me?”
It was there in the stillness that I heard Him say, “I just wanted to hear you sing.”
I felt so loved and so known. My song was precious to my Father. The words of a melody filled my heart…”Little stars, with the yellow hue, float across the prairie dew. And Lord You are so marvelous, the fireflies too, make me think of You.”
